What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence is the ability to recognize our feelings and those of others, as well as managing emotions in ourselves and in our relationships.


Emotional Intelligence is composed of 4 dynamics:

  1. Recognizing feelings and emotions in yourself and in others.
  2. Knowing how to manage your feelings and emotions.
  3. Understanding how to use feelings and emotions to self-motivate.
  4. Knowing how to apply these feelings and emotions in a variety of contexts and relationships that one develops throughout life.


The mastery of these four dynamics will make you reach your objectives and become a productive professional, thus applying the competences of: Self-awareness, Self-management, Social Awareness andSocial Competencies.

Why Emotional Intelligence is important

Have you ever felt at work that people do not trust your opinion or that you are not asked for opinions as often as you would  like? It may be a sign that your are not managing your emotions well enough, and that is having a negative impact on your daily life. Failure is not a sign of weak Emotional Intelligence, but it is the way we handle the flaws that we show our Emotional Intelligence level.


According to studies conducted by Hay Group and Daniel Goleman, the capabilities considered essential for excellence in all types of professions are:

  • 67% emotional skills
  • 33% related to cognitive or technical skills
  • 90% of people with higher levels of performance have high levels of emotional intelligence

In Leadership roles, the emotional competences were still more relevant reaching 80%.

We use the Emotional Intelligence Model developed by Daniel Goleman (author and scientific journalist of the United States, considered the father of Emotional Intelligence), who advocates the development of 4 areas to influence others and shows us the solution to deal with feelings of frustration or emotional exhaustion.

In an initial phase, we measure the level of Emotional Intelligence, through the ESCI (Emotional and Social Competency Inventory), where a diagnosis is made with 360º evaluation. From these data we work on gaps most needed, and there may be different types of relationship with the emotions and feelings towards others and towards us. 


The Model of Emotional Intelligence developed by Daniel Goleman is the one indicated to strengthen the field of Total Emotional Intelligence, since it operates in 4 different strands:

Curiosities about Emotional Intelligence

Do you know why cognitive intelligence is not very relevant in professional and technical functions?

Because the input threshold is typically an IQ of 110-120. As everyone is in the group of about 10% smarter, IQ itself provides a relatively small competitive advantage.

A Gallup study indicated that most contributors rated "having a boss who cares" as more important than "money" or "additional benefits." This same study also indicated that the amount of time the employee continues in the organization and their level of performance are directly related to their relationship with their direct superior.
