WHY IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE SO IMPORTANT?
According to studies carried out by Hay McBer and Daniel Goleman, the skills considered essential for excellent performance in all types of professions are:
- 67% emotional skills
- 33% cognitive or technical skills
In Leadership roles, emotional skills were even more relevant,
- 80%. emotional skills
- 20% cognitive or technical skills
Think about your experience. What were the bosses that you really liked and helped you grow like? And those who didn't like it at all. What skills did they have and which ones did they not? What level of empathy did they have? What emotions and feelings aroused in you? How was their stress management?
Think about how organizations hire their talent. Many of them are based on superficial aspects such as smile, pose, appearance, personality, interests, goals. Others are based on Knowledge and Experience (education, certifications, titles, companies they worked for and the roles they held). Then there are others that focus on Emotional Intelligence (communication, empathy, self-control, adaptability, commitment, stress management, motivation). The latter are usually the most successful in their recruitment.
